6-month-old cyclone

September 30, 2010

Today you begin life as a 6-month-old, and although it is hard to believe that you have been with us for half of a whole year already, on the other hand you seem so much older than just six months. I can’t believe that 6 months ago i was just getting to know you, studying your face, snuggling with you in the hospital bed, realizing that your dad never looked more happy than when he looked at you for the first time, and trying to comprehend just how drastically our lives had changed in a matter of a couple seconds.

Your first few moments in the real world were so peaceful.

Now: Peaceful? No. Rambunctious? Yes.

In the past month you have:

Survived your first camping trip

Crawled! (well technically I pushed you down before anyone saw…dad’s out of town and I don’t want him to miss out! so we are not counting it.)

Got your first horse ride

Abandoned anything that remotely resembles an “inside voice”

New discoveries and things you love to do:

Grab, kick and hit EVERYthing-nothing within your reach is off limits to you as far as your concerned.

You love faces and find it very amusing to try to rip peoples’ noses and eyes off with your bare hands.

You love shoving your feet in your mouth. It’s strange you’ve never once sucked your thumb, but you’ll happily suck on your big toes.

Physical observations

You are very long and very strong.

You are a great eater and are gobbling up your home made baby food, straight out of Grandma Jerrine’s garden and Neighbor John’s. So far you have had carrots, beets, avocados, and peas.

You are still a cyclone of energy and most people are shocked when I tell them that you’ve never once slept through the night. You are just way to curious and active for that! On average, the longest you’ve slept at a time is probably 3-4 hours. I still consider myself lucky if you nap for more than 45 minutes at a time, a couple times a day. Sleep is not your thing girlfriend. But what you lack in willingness to sleep, you make up for with laughs, smiles, energy, determination, and intensity.

You are still aggressive, rambunctious, loud, wiggly, and every day live up to your name “Wylde.”

You wear size 2 shoe, although you hardly ever wear shoes. You are wearing 6-9 month clothes, some 12 months and size 2 or 3 diapers.

Some of my favorite pictures from the past month:
